Comprehensive Guide to Pick The Right Mattress Material For a Goodnight Sleep

A good night’s sleep is very crucial for our overall well-being. So much so that a person who is not well-rested at night tends to become grumpy, and irritable in the morning. It has a direct impact on our productivity. Investing in a quality mattress is one method to guarantee a restful night’s sleep. Finding the right mattress is more than just finding something that comes within your budget. Whether you are looking for a double bed mattress or a mattress for a single bed, understanding the material it is made up of is very important so that you can pick a mattress that suits your sleeping pattern, position, and budget.

Majorly there are five types of materials that mattresses come in – innerspring, foam, hybrid, latex, and airbed. Let’s understand these five materials:

  1. Foam: Made entirely from foam, and no coil these are a perfect pick for those who tend to sleep on the side, and also for couples. Memory foam mattresses offer the best pressure relief because they adjust to your spine and ease pressure points, and help in easing the tension built on your back due to stress. Memory-form mattresses offer protection against impact as these tend to come back to their former shape once the pressure is released.
  2. Innerspring: The most widely used mattresses that you will find in the market continue to be innerspring mattresses. This type of mattress has been around for years and is easily available with top brands like the Duroflex mattress. These types of mattresses have coils embedded at the base and then covered with a few other layers for comfort. These are very budget-friendly, however, they don’t provide much pressure relief. They make a good option if you suffer from chronic back pain or shoulder pain.
  3. Latex: Latex mattresses have latex rubber which is extracted from the sap of the rubber tree, and is used in every layer. Such type of mattresses is also called all-latex or true-latex mattress. Latex mattresses provide a nice bounce, and also offer some amount of body contouring. These are a good eco-friendly option and are very low on maintenance. There are synthetic latex mattresses also available in the market these days.
  4. Hybrid: As the name suggests hybrid mattresses are made up of two core elements – foam and coil. Sometimes the comfort layer of the mattress may also contain latex. Based on how these are built, hybrid mattresses are a good choice as they provide a good combination of bounce and contouring with little heat retention.
  5. Airbed: Also known as a blow-up bed, airbeds are inflatable mattresses consisting of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), rubber, and plastic. These are very compact and can be carried around easily. All you need to do is to pump air either manually or use an electric pump into the valve to make it firm. Airbeds these days come with a built-in pump that can be controlled through a smartphone to fill the mattress with the right amount of air. Airbeds give sleepers the flexibility to choose firmness.

All in all, there is no perfect mattress material. What is important is that you find a mattress that suits your individual sleeping preferences and needs.
